That&#8217;s a seemingly\u00a0fixable problem that has inspired a number of creative ideas.\u00a0 Unfortunately, everything except conserving water has proven to be a longshot proposal riddled with logistical, legal or cost\u00a0problems.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul\">\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\"><strong>The problem<\/strong>: The Colorado River is drying up from drought and overuse. It&#8217;s\u00a0the literal lifeblood of the West.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\"><strong>A rainy year doesn&#8217;t solve the water crisis<\/strong>: Rain and snow, particularly in\u00a0California, has offered temporary relief to water worries. But experts say the water demand in the west is set to keep exceeding supply\u00a0\u2014 unless\u00a0major conservation efforts successfully roll out.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\"><strong>Demand remains high:<\/strong> Native American tribes increasingly demanding their legal rights to water, fast-growing Phoenix and Las Vegas are consuming more water to support development and California and Arizona farmers are under increasing pressure to keep food costs low and production high.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Meanwhile, massive amounts of fresh water are readily available to the East.\u00a0Ocean water can be processed into drinking water.
